I am an illustrator and printmaker working from a studio at Hot Bed Press in Salford. I’ve been self-employed since 2008, when I set up my creative business at a studio in Manchester Craft and Design Centre after completing a Masters in Textiles at Manchester Metropolitan University. Throughout my career I’ve been very fortunate to have worked on a number of exciting commissions, one of my favourites was making a linocut portrait of Emmeline Pankhurst for Women in Print in 2016, a project celebrating iconic women from the North. This opportunity subsequently led to a further commission for the National Trust that was exhibited at Dunham Massey in 2018.
My practice explores a range of traditional and contemporary printmaking techniques. Playfully exploring intuition and chance, I use the marks made in analogue techniques to create a lively aesthetic. Through painterly mono screenprinting, I investigate the labour behind hand-made work and the physicality of printmaking. Combining these techniques I develop contemporary, expressive compositions with an uplifting use of colour.
